Getting here

Finding us in downtown Kelowna

Is there parking near the studio?

Yes. Paid surface parking is available on the surrounding streets, and a public parkade is within 200 metres. For framing pick-ups, we validate parking — just ask at the front desk when you arrive.

Which BC Transit routes serve the area?

Several routes pass within a 3-minute walk of the studio. The downtown Kelowna transit exchange is approximately 700 metres away, making us easily reachable from most parts of the city without a car.

Do you serve clients outside Kelowna?

Yes. We regularly work with clients from West Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, and Summerland. For framing, clients typically drop off and pick up in person. For art consultations, we offer home visits within 60 km of Kelowna. We also accept framing commissions by appointment from Vernon and Penticton.

Is the studio accessible for people with mobility challenges?

Yes. Our entrance is step-free from street level, the main gallery and framing studio are on a single level, and our washroom is accessible. Street parking directly in front of the studio is generally available. Please let us know your needs when you book and we will ensure everything is ready.

Straight answers from the framing bench

How should I store original artwork at home to prevent deterioration?

The two biggest threats to artwork in a home are fluctuating humidity and UV light. Aim to keep relative humidity between 45% and 55% and avoid hanging pieces on exterior walls, above radiators, or in direct sunlight — even indirect UV through a window causes fading over time. For works on paper, store flat in acid-free folders or boxes rather than rolled. If you are stacking canvases, place a sheet of glassine between them to prevent surface contact. Climate-controlled interior walls, away from kitchens and bathrooms, are generally the safest spots in a typical Okanagan home, where summer heat and winter dryness can be extreme.

What should I look for when assessing whether a painting has been restored before?

The most reliable non-invasive method is to examine the surface under raking light — hold a torch at a very low angle to the canvas. Previous in-painting (retouching) often shows a slightly different texture or sheen compared to the surrounding original paint. Under UV light, old varnish fluoresces a greenish colour while newer varnish or retouching appears dark, making repairs visible even when they are invisible in normal light. Craquelure patterns — the network of fine cracks in aged paint — should be consistent across the whole surface; an area with a different crack pattern or no craquelure at all is worth examining more closely. For any painting with significant value, a written condition report from a professional conservator is always worthwhile before purchase.

How do I know which matboard colour will complement my artwork rather than compete with it?

The most reliable starting point is to pull a neutral mid-tone from the artwork itself — not the brightest colour, but a quieter one that recurs throughout the composition. Off-white and warm cream mats work with the widest range of subjects because they do not introduce a competing hue. A coloured mat should echo a secondary or background tone in the piece, never the dominant one. Width matters as much as colour: a mat that is too narrow makes the artwork feel cramped, while one that is too wide can dwarf a small piece. As a rough guide, the mat border should be at least 6 cm on all sides for a medium-sized work, with the bottom border 1–2 cm wider than the top to correct for the optical illusion that makes equal borders appear bottom-heavy. Always view your mat and moulding samples together in the same light as the room where the piece will hang — gallery fluorescents can shift colour perception significantly.

How we work

How working with us feels

  1. Tell us what you need

Walk in, call, or send us a message. Whether it is a framing project, a workshop booking, or a question about an exhibition, we start with a real conversation — no online forms, no call centres.

    15–30 minutes
  2. We assess and advise

For framing, we examine your artwork and show you moulding, matboard, and glazing options side by side. For consultations, we ask about your space, your taste, and your budget before making any suggestions.

    30–60 minutes
  3. You approve the plan

We prepare a written quote or workshop confirmation. Nothing proceeds until you are comfortable with the scope, the timeline, and the price.

    Same day in most cases
  4. We do the work

Framing is completed in our on-site studio. Workshops run in our dedicated 60 m² studio space. Exhibitions are installed by our team. You are welcome to check in at any stage.

3 days to 3 weeks depending on service
  5. Delivery and follow-up

We contact you when your piece is ready, and we are available for any questions after the fact. For framing clients, our 10-year guarantee means the relationship does not end at pick-up.

Reviews

What our clients say

Sample reviews (demo)

I have been bringing my artwork to Meridian for framing since 2006. David and Elaine know my taste better than I do at this point. The quality is consistently excellent and the advice is always honest — they talked me out of a frame I loved but that would have overpowered the painting. That is the kind of relationship you cannot find at a chain.

Patricia L.Custom framing client, 18 years

My daughter took a watercolour workshop here for her birthday and has not stopped painting since. The instructor was patient, encouraging, and clearly passionate about the medium. The studio space is lovely — good light, good materials, and a relaxed atmosphere. We have already booked the 4-session series.

James T.Workshop — watercolour beginner session

Sophie helped us choose art for our new home in West Kelowna. She listened carefully, came to the house, and presented a shortlist that felt like she had read our minds. We ended up with three pieces we absolutely love, and the installation was seamless. The consultation fee was well worth it and was credited toward our purchase.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an appointment to visit the gallery?

The main gallery is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday with no appointment needed. Private showroom viewings and framing consultations are by appointment — we recommend booking ahead to ensure a team member is available to give you their full attention.

How do I book a workshop?

Our workshop schedule is posted in the studio and updated monthly. You can book by calling us or stopping in. We ask for payment at the time of booking to hold your spot, as sessions fill quickly and we cap attendance at 12 participants.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, debit, and major credit cards in-studio. For larger artwork purchases or commercial projects, we can arrange bank transfer or a payment plan. Gift cards are accepted for any service.

Can I bring a piece in for a framing estimate without committing?

Absolutely. Framing consultations and estimates are free and carry no obligation. Bring your artwork in during business hours and one of our team will walk you through the options and give you a written quote to take away.

Do you ship artwork purchased from the gallery?

We can arrange professional art shipping within Canada for purchased works. Shipping costs are quoted separately and depend on the size and fragility of the piece. We package all works to professional archival standards.

Are your workshops suitable for children?

We offer dedicated youth sessions for ages 8–14, running 2 hours and priced at $45 per child. Adult sessions are designed for participants 15 and older. Children under 8 are welcome to attend opening receptions with a parent but are not enrolled in studio sessions.

Do you buy artwork or take pieces on consignment?

We accept work on consignment for our rotating exhibitions. We do not purchase artwork outright. Consignment terms are discussed individually with each artist — contact us or submit a portfolio for consideration.

What is your accessibility situation?

Our entrance is step-free from street level and our washroom is accessible. The main gallery and framing studio are on a single level. If you have specific accessibility needs, please let us know when you book and we will make sure everything is ready for your visit.

Can I commission a custom artwork through the gallery?

Yes. We can connect you with artists in our network who accept commissions. We facilitate the introduction and can advise on scope and pricing, but the commission agreement is between you and the artist directly. There is no referral fee.

Do prices include GST?

All prices shown are before applicable taxes. GST (and PST where applicable) is added at the time of purchase. We will always show you the full total before you confirm any transaction.

Ready to bring something beautiful to your walls?

Walk in during gallery hours or send us a message and we will get back to you the same day.
